이번 포스트에서는 저번에 살짝 예고했던 것과 같이 Xior 홈페이지를 통해 집을 구했던 과정에 대해 적어보려고 한다.
일단 학교 하우징 페이지를 통해 방 예약 날짜가 5월 11일인 걸 확인했다. 그러나 문제는 EUR(학교) 하우징 홈페이지에는 오후 5시라고 적혀있고, RSM(학과) 하우징 홈페이지에는 오후 7시라고 적혀있었다. 일단 혹시 몰라서 오후 5시에 들어가보기로 했다. 괜히 7시에 들어갔다가 늦어서 방이 다 나가고 없는 것보다는 일찍 들어가보는 게 더 나을 것 같았기 때문이다.
5월 11일 수요일, 오후 4시 55분 경 Xior 예약 페이지(https://www.xior-booking.com/)에 접속을 준비했다. 어느 EUR 학생 유튜버의 영상에서 Xior에서 방을 잡는 것은 헝거게임에서 이기는 것과 같다는, 그만큼 경쟁률이 장난 아니라는 말을 들었기 때문에 노트북과 아이패드로는 와이파이로 접속하고, 휴대폰으로는 데이터로 접속했다. 즉, 총 3개의 기기로 접속했다.
5분 뒤 5시가 되자마자 페이지에 접속했다. 그러나 예상했던 것과 같이(?) 서버가 터지는 바람에 3개의 기기 모두 다 바로 접속이 되지 않았다.
그 후로 30분 정도 흘렀나.. 드디어 노트북으로 접속이 되었다! 그런데 하면 안 되는 행동을 해버렸다.. 접속된 것에 감사하며 바로 아무 방이나 예약하기 버튼을 눌렀어야 했는데 방의 렌트 가격들이 학교 하우징 홈페이지에 소개되어있는 가격보다 높길래 그 중에서 저렴한 방을 찾느라 방 예약은 안 하고 계속 다음 페이지 버튼을 누르면서 방 구경(?)만 해버렸다. 그렇게 모든 방의 가격을 쭉 훑어보니 다들 학교가 얘기하는 가격보다 높길래 그냥 싼 방 찾기는 포기하고 그 페이지에 떠있는 방들을 클릭했는데 돌아오는 메시지는 '이 방은 현재 다른 사람이 예약 중이라 예약할 수 없다'였다.. 그 똑같은 메시지를 몇 번을 본 뒤 다시 1페이지 버튼을 눌렀는데, 애 써서 들어간 서버가 또 터져버렸다..
그렇게 심하게 자책하며 기다리기를 약 1시간. 드디어 휴대폰으로 접속을 성공했다. 이번에는 남아있는 방 중에서 제일 저렴한 방 찾기는 개뿔, 일단 바로 위에 떠있는 방부터 클릭했다. 또 다른 사람이 예약 중이라는 메시지를 보게 될까봐 너무 두려웠는데, 다행히도 바로 예약 페이지로 넘어갔다! 너무 기뻤지만 아직 예약이 완료된 게 아니기 때문에 마음을 가다듬고 예약에 필요한 정보들을 하나씩 입력했다. 그러다 또 다시 문제가 생겼다. 전화번호를 입력해야 하는데 한국 번호로 입력하니 시스템 상에서 자동으로 -이 입력되더니 숫자 외의 문자들은 입력하면 안 된다는 메시지가 뜨고 그 다음 페이지로 넘어가질 않았다.. (예를 들어, 국가번호를 한국, 즉 +82로 선택한 후 전화번호 (0)10xxxxxxxx를 입력하면 자동으로 (0)10-xxxx-xxxx으로 바껴서 입력이 되고서는 숫자 외의 문자를 적지 말란다.. 아니 내가 적은 게 아니고 시스템이 자동 입력해놓고는 입력하지 말라니.. 이게 무슨 말도 안 되는 상황이냔 말이다..) 멘붕이 와서 어떡하지 고민하던 중 아직도 연락 중인 더치 친구가 생각이 났다. 그래서 일단 그 친구 번호를 입력하고(더치 번호는 - 자동 입력 안 되고 잘만 넘어가더라..) 예약을 성공적으로(?) 완료했다.
정말 약 2시간 동안 멘붕에 사로잡혀서 울면서 겨우 신청 성공한 Xior.. 그랬던 나의 노력이 헛되지 않은 퀄리티의 방이면 정말 좋겠다.
In this post, I'm going to write about how the process of booking a room at Xior went as I briefly said in the last post.
First, I checked from the university housing website that the date for booking a room at Xior was the 11th of May. But what confused me was that the EUR(university) housing webpage says it would be at 5 p.m. but on the RSM(faculty) housing webpage it was 7 p.m. So, I decided to go into the booking webpage at 5 just in case because I thought that it would be much better to access the page early than late and so there are no rooms left.
On the 11th of May, Wednesday, I prepared to access the Xior booking webpage(https://www.xior-booking.com/) at around 4:55 p.m. Since I watched a YouTube video from a EUR student saying that successfully booking a room at Xior is like winning the Hunger Games, which means it's super hard to book a room there, I used three devices to access the webpage: laptop(Wifi), iPad(Wifi), and phone(data).
And after 5 minutes, as soon as it became 5 p.m., I tried to access the webpage. But, as I expected, the server went down, so with all three devices, it wasn't possible to get to the booking webpage.
And I think about 30 minutes had passed, and finally, I was able to get into the booking portal with my laptop! But, I did what I shouldn't have done.. I should have been grateful for finally being able to access the webpage and clicked the 'Book now' button of any room right away, but I was only looking for a room whose rent is less than others, (I did this because the rent of the rooms was higher than what the university housing webpage said.) which means I was just browsing rooms without doing what I actually needed to do. I found that all the rents were higher than I expected, so I just gave up looking for a cheaper room, and I finally started to click the 'Book now' button on the webpage. But guess what happened? Every time I did so, all I received was the message saying 'You can't book this room since another person already booked this room.' After seeing the message several times, the server went down again..
I waited for an extra hour blaming myself so hard. Then, finally, I could access the webpage again, and this time with my phone. There was something that I learned from the last try, so this time I clicked the first room that appeared on the webpage instead of finding the cheapest room. To be honest, I was really afraid of whether I would see the message again, but fortunately, I could proceed to the detailed booking webpage. I was so happy, but since the booking hadn't been done yet, I calmed myself and wrote all the information that is needed to make the booking successful. And then, AGAIN, there came a problem. I had to write my phone number, but when I wrote my Korean one, the system automatically put - in the between of numbers, and then I couldn't go next because there are characters that are not numbers in my phone number. For example, when I chose the country number +82 and wrote a phone number as (0)10xxxxxxxx, it just automatically changed to (0)10-xxxx-xxxx, and then said there should be only numbers.. Like, what?? I again had a mental breakdown, but luckily it didn't go that long because I had a Dutch friend with who I was still keeping in touch. So I wrote his phone number (With a Dutch phone number, there wasn't any issue like that. Weird..) and I FINALLY completed the booking.
I literally cried for two hours with having so many mental breakdowns while booking a room at Xior. I really hope it was worth it.
